Children should see an orthodontic specialist by age 7. If they don’t, we might miss early signs. If ignored, problems can get bigger and harder to treat as they grow up.
Think About This:
- Are you worried about your child's crooked teeth?
- Not sure if your child needs braces or other orthodontist help?
- Is your child nervous about seeing the orthodontist?
- Does your child say their teeth hurt?
- Is their bite uncomfortable?
- Do you want the highest quality care for your child?

Stop Hiding.

It’s important to check teeth problems early.
If we wait, fixing them later can be much more difficult and expensive.

Do You Need An Orthodontist in Calgary?
We Can Help With

Sometimes the top and bottom teeth don’t line up right, making it hard to bite and chew, and can hurt your teeth over time. Our treatments, like Invisalign™ and braces, help fix this, making smiles look great. Teens and adults alike benefit from treatment options for this type of bite correction.

An underbite is when the bottom teeth stick out past the top teeth, and an overbite is when the top teeth cover the bottom ones too much. Both can mean there’s a problem with how the jaw is shaped. They can cause teeth to wear out faster because they don’t line up right. It can even make it hard to chew food and talk clearly sometimes.
Our Calgary orthodontic team recommends correcting an underbite when your child is 7 or 8 years old, while an overbite is best treated during the growth spurt of puberty, around ages 10-13.

Tooth crowding happens a lot in children. It is one of the most common orthodontic issues. It’s when there’s not enough space in the mouth for all the teeth, so they can bunch up, twist, or get pushed out of place. This makes the teeth look all squished together. When we fix crowding we end up with straight teeth.
Your Calgary orthodontists have specialized training in creating beautiful smiles with appliances like clear braces, metal braces and Invisalign.

A gummy smile is when you see more gums than teeth when your child smiles, which might make them feel a bit shy about their smile. This can happen if the teeth are small, if there’s a gum problem, or if the teeth came in late or in a different way.
Fortunately, normal growth and development can improve the look of a gummy smile. Early orthodontic treatment is not usually indicated unless there are other orthodontic problems that also need to be addressed.

Meet Your Calgary Orthodontists

Dr. Jen
I’m passionate about helping kids and teens achieve smiles they’re proud of. I became an orthodontist because I believe the dentist should be fun, not intimidating. My favorite part of the job is connecting with the families I treat, making every patient feel welcome and cared for. Seeing my patients leave with big smiles – and even bigger confidence – is what drives me every day.

Dr. Dena
Ever since I had my own braces removed, I knew orthodontics was the path I was meant to follow. The ability to create positive change and help people gain confidence through their smiles has always been my driving passion. There is nothing more fulfilling than providing patients with healthy, beautiful, and functional smiles that can last a lifetime.

Dr. Wendy
With nearly a decade of experience as a general dentist, I’ve found that the best part of my job is building relationships and making lasting connections with my patients. Now, as a specialist in orthodontics, I have the privilege of helping people feel more confident in themselves—without the “ouch” or anxiety often associated with dental care.
Wondering About The Best Smile For Your Child?
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral from my dentist to come and see you?
Absolutely not! We are happy to see anyone that is interested in improving their smile or bite. You can call, text, email or book online at your convenience. Your child will get a free consultation where we will present you with treatment options, a personalized treatment plan, flexible payment plans, and answer all of your questions.
There are so many orthodontists in Calgary. How do I pick?
There are many options in Calgary, so it can be hard to choose. We recommend you visit a few offices and see which one feels right to you. Every practice will be different and it is important to choose a practice that you and your child feel good about. Check out reviews ask friends and family who they have used and liked, and go with your gut.
At what age should my child first visit an orthodontist?
We recommend that children have their first orthodontic check-up at age 7. This helps identify issues that may be easier to correct if caught early. At your initial consultation, we will be providing comprehensive treatment options and discussing ideal timing for treatment.
Are braces or invisalign painful for children?
While braces and Invisalign™ can cause some discomfort, they shouldn’t be painful. We use the latest techniques and technology to ensure your child’s comfort throughout the process. A beautiful and healthy smile is easy when you work with orthodontic specialists.
How long will my child need to wear braces or Invisalign?
The length of time needed for braces or Invisalign™ varies depending on your child’s case, but on average, it can be between 12 to 36 months. The orthodontist will make a special plan that tells you exactly how long for your child based on their orthodontic needs.
Is it difficult for children to clean their teeth with braces?
It’s a bit tricky, but don’t worry! We’ll show you and your child the best way to clean teeth with braces and maintain good oral hygiene. Most children can manage caring for their teeth on their journey to a beautiful and healthy smile all by themselves. This is great for their self esteem.
Can my child still play sports or musical instruments with braces or Invisalign?
Absolutely! We recommend a protective mouthguard for sports. Playing an instrument might feel different at first, but kids get used to it fast. There are a lot of athletes and musicians in Calgary! Achieving a beautiful smile no longer interferes with all of the fun stuff.
What are the benefits of Invisalign over traditional braces for my child?
Invisalign™ is almost invisible, and you can take it out to eat and brush so there are fewer changes to everyday routines. They’re a great option for kids and teens. We also use dental monitoring for our Invisalign patients so that we can keep a close eye on those confident smiles as they develop. Dental monitoring makes it so that you only have to come into the office as-needed AND we can keep a closer eye on the teeth.
Will braces or Invisalign make it hard for my child to talk?
There might be a little bit of time when talking feels weird, but it gets better very quickly. Children and teens mouths are very adaptable. Orthodontics only bothers them for a few days to a week and then they are used to the changes.
What happens if my child's braces break?
If any part of your child’s braces comes loose or breaks, contact us immediately. We’ll tell you what to do next and make an appointment to fix them.
How often does my child need to come in for check ups during treatment?
Typically, we see patients every 6-20 weeks, but this can vary. With tools like our Dental Monitoring app, we see each patient at the right time for them. Your Calgary orthodontist will decide when appointments are needed.
Are there foods my child should avoid with braces?
Yes, to protect their braces, your child should avoid hard, sticky, and chewy foods. We’ll give you a list of what’s okay to eat and what to stay away from. The only really big no-no is popcorn. Those husks get stuck in the stunning smile and can be very hard to pick out.
Can you fit my child's appointments into our busy schedule?
We get that you’re busy, so we have different times you can choose for appointments to make life easier.
How much do braces cost and can we pay in installments?
Costs are different for everyone, but we’ll help you find a way to pay that works for your family. We have interest-free payment plans that let you pay bit by bit. We also follow the Alberta Dental Fee Guide and can help you with insurance claims at your free consultation and beyond.
Do you offer hidden braces?
Orthodontic treatment with lingual braces (hidden behind the teeth) is not common. Most Calgary orthodontists use Invisalign or other clear aligner brands when an esthetic option is preferred.
Is early treatment the same as Phase 1 orthodontic treatment?
Yes! Our treatment plan for orthodontics is considered early or Phase 1 if there are still baby teeth present in the mouth. Adult orthodontics is also called comprehensive or Phase 2 orthodontics because all of the baby teeth are gone.
