What Kind of Bite
Do You Have?
Three of the most common orthodontic concerns are overbites, underbites, and crossbites. An overbite is characterized by your top teeth overlapping with your bottom teeth, and an underbite is the opposite. A crossbite is when some of your top teeth rest inside your lower teeth. Most people have at least a slight overbite.
Health Risks Associated With Underbites/Overbites
Tooth Wear
Individuals with an overbite or underbite are more likely to develop moderate to severe enamel chipping and wear. An incorrect bite causes damage to tooth structure and can wear down the hard protective outer layer of teeth. This can result in tooth sensitivity, cavities and a future need for expensive dental work.
Gum Disease
Severe overbites and crossbites can lead to gum recession as the teeth contact the gum line in abnormal ways. As gum tissue wears away, the risk of developing sensitivity increases as the tooth root becomes more exposed.
Ability to Eat
Overbites, underbites, and crossbites can make it difficult for children to eat and chew properly and may lead to discomfort and uneven wear of the teeth. In some cases, severe underbites and overbites alter the position of the teeth and tongue and may affect a child’s speech.
Low Self-Esteem
Because underbites, overbites, and crossbites can be quite noticeable when you smile and may also impact speech and eating efficiency, some children can develop low self-esteem as a result of the issue. Invisalign straightens teeth discreetly, and an improved smile can increase confidence.
Invisalign
Invisalign is a popular treatment for overbites, underbites, and crossbites. In severe cases, we may recommend surgery in addition to Invisalign to fix an overbite, underbite, or crossbite.

Dental Monitoring
At Impact Orthodontics, we take advantage of the proprietary Dental Monitoring app to make wearing Invisalign easier for you and your children. You can send us updates through the app, and we can tell you when to move onto your next set of aligners.
We Care About Your
Kids Like Our Own
Most people have at least a slight overbite, which is typically not a cause for concern. If your child has a severe overbite, Invisalign can help to correct the issue and reduce the need for jaw surgery in the future.
Severe underbites and overbites alter the position of the teeth and the tongue and may affect a child’s speech. In many cases, individuals with an underbite may talk with a lisp.
