Are you a parent looking for Invisalign for your child or teen? Or are you looking to improve your own smile and bite? You may be curious about the cost of Invisalign in Calgary. Most people will Google “Invisalign cost Calgary” when they begin their search.

Some of the most commonly asked questions about Invisalign are, “How much does it cost?” and “Does Invisalign cost more than traditional metal braces?”

The true and honest answer is that it depends!

The cost of Invisalign in Calgary depends on what needs to be done to the teeth and bite and who is doing the orthodontic treatment for you.

Both general dentists and orthodontic specialists move teeth with Invisalign (and other clear aligners). The cost of that treatment is based on a combination of:

  • The materials being used
  • The doctor’s expertise and experience
  • The amount of time in treatment
  • The difficulty of the correction

The Alberta Dental Fee Guide

Alberta Dental Fee Guide

The Alberta Dental Fee Guide lists orthodontic treatment to range from $ 5,000 to $20,000.

This is why figuring out the cost of your Invisalign is difficult unless you see an orthodontist in person. That is quite the range, and the expertise of the doctor providing the care is required to determine the cost of your Invisalign trays.

Simply googling “Invisalign cost Calgary” will not show you accurate fees, as context is required. We need to see the adult teeth or baby teeth to determine what will be required for proper alignment and to create your future smile.

Not All Orthodontic Problems Are Created Equal

girl pointing at her teeth that need Invisalign treatment with invisible braces

Sometimes, only an individual tooth needs slight adjustments, and sometimes, every tooth in the mouth and the jaw bones need to be moved in order to complete treatment.

The best way to find out how much it will cost to fix your teeth or your child’s teeth is to see your local orthodontist for a treatment fee for your specific treatment. This is often a free consultation. Your orthodontist will discuss the orthodontic treatment plan, Invisalign treatment, traditional braces, payment options (including payment plans), risks and benefits, and answer any questions.

You don’t have to worry about these consultations; they are to provide accurate information on your child’s (or your) orthodontic issues and explain the straightening process, your treatment options, your insurance plan (if you have one) and anything else you are curious about.

Invisalign aligners (also called Invisalign clear aligners, Invisalign braces, and Invisalign trays) are unlike traditional braces. They are a removable set of aligners that are worn for 22 hours a day, and they move the teeth gradually into the desired position, resulting in straighter teeth and better bites. They put a gentle force on crooked teeth to create a healthy smile.

We often see improved oral hygiene with the wearing of clear aligners (when compared to metal brackets) because traditional brushing and flossing habits remain the same as they are now.

Adults and children also appreciate their discreet appearance (they are virtually invisible) and fewer dietary restrictions. It is easy to maintain your usual diet with Invisalign because you can remove them at any time.

Invisalign even works with permanent teeth emerging. The Invisalign child and Invisalign teen products were created so that people of all ages and all stages of dental development can choose Invisalign.

Invisalign Cost in Calgary | General Dentist vs. Orthodontist

the Canadian dental association allows dentists and orthodontists to do Invisalign

We hear all the time about how Invisalign is cheaper in a general dental practice than it is at an orthodontic specialist’s office. Sometimes this is true, and sometimes it is not.

The most important thing to know about Invisalign clear braces and the person providing treatment is their experience and if you feel comfortable with them.

Each dental or orthodontic practice sets its fees. I have seen family dentists who charge less than, the same as, and more than we (orthodontic specialists) charge for orthodontic assessment and treatment.

How Is An Orthodontist Different ?| Orthodontic Treatment

All Orthodontists are dentists, but not vice versa.

Orthodontists are dentists who went to school for an additional 2-3 years after dental school to specialize in the movement of teeth and jaws. You can think of it like a medical specialty…internal medicine doctors are not the same as family doctors. The training is different, as is the experience.

The teeth straightening process is complicated, and some complications can arise during treatment. Orthodontists are not only well-trained in the movement of teeth and bones but can also recognize complications and treat them accordingly.

Orthodontists also have many tools in the toolbox. Most general dentists that do Invisalign do not do other types of orthodontic treatment plans. Meaning, they can only offer the one thing that they know how to do. This also means that if Invisalign is not working for you or your child, they do not have an alternative.

Orthodontists, on the other hand, can use a variety of appliances and tools to make sure that the solution that is best for your child is available.

Whether you are in custom-made Invisalign aligners that you wear 22 hours a day, other removable aligners, clear braces, metal braces or appliances, your orthodontist can take you through your treatment plan from start to finish!

Traditional Braces vs. Invisalign Aligners

regular braces on a teenage boy

Traditional braces:

  • Attached to the teeth
  • Food restrictions
  • More complicated oral hygiene routine
  • More in-office visits
  • Emergency appointments will happen
  • Very visible in the mouth
  • Can be used for all types of orthodontic problems

Invisalign aligners:

  • Removable aligners
  • No food restrictions
  • Same oral health routines as before Invisalign
  • Fewer office visits meaning less school and work missed
  • No emergency appointments
  • Clear plastic trays so not obvious in the mouth
  • Can be used for all types of orthodontic problems

Thinking about Invisalign Calgary?

All parents want to give their children beautiful smiles and teeth that will last them a lifetime. Traditionally, metal braces were recommended for kids.

These days, in the search for the best way to do this, moms and dads often come across clear aligners (brands like Invisalign, Angel, Spark, Clarity) as an option for their child.

These were not generally an option for the parent, so they don’t know if they are better or worse than braces. The opinions of others is all they have to go on.

We want you to be able to make the best decision for your child, so we will cover the pro’s and con’s of Invisalign clear aligners below.

Of course, speaking to Dr. Jen or Dr. Dena at a new patient exam will be the best way to get your specific concerns addressed. You can book a free new patient exam for your child here: https://impactortho.com/book-appointment/

Orthodontic treatment is a big deal and a rite-of-passage for many kids and teens. At most orthodontic offices, you will have the option of traditional braces or Invisalign clear aligners (and many other clear aligner brands like Angel and Spark).

We tell our patients every day that the best appliance to choose is the one that you think you will do the best with. Metal and plastic both move teeth in similar ways, the timelines are generally the same, and all types of teeth and bites can be corrected with both.

How do you choose?

What Are The Advantages of Invisalign, Calgary?

Invisalign Aligners

Comfort

Invisalign trays come as a set of aligners packaged in individual bags and numbered from 1 to X (depending on the length of your treatment plan). Each aligner has small tooth movements built into it and each aligner builds upon the last.

Most people that have had both braces and Invisalign will say that Invisalign treatment is more comfortable because of the gentle, consistent forces. Each aligner is worn for 7-10 days before it is switched out to the next.

In the first 3-4 days:

Your child or teen will feel temporary discomfort, but as the teeth gradually shift, the teeth return to feeling like they did before wearing aligners.

Anything that works for a headache can make the teeth feel better (Tylenol, Advil, ice pack). Soft and cold foods will also ease any discomfort from the Invisalign aligner.

Food

Foods you can eat during Invisalign treatment

Your Invisalign aligners are worn for 22 hours a day and are only removed to eat and brush your teeth. This means that you can eat anything your heart desires. There are no food restrictions with any clear aligners.

When parents are considering teen Invisalign treatment they often tell us about all the snacking that their teen does. Rest assured, Invisalign aligners can be removed and inserted as many times as needed throughout the day. A simple rinse with water and they can pop them back in.

Oral Hygiene

Keep that new smile clean while in Invisalign

Removable aligners like Invisalign are removable…meaning you can take them out to brush and floss. This means that there is no change to your day-to-day routine. We simply ask that you brush your teeth twice a day and floss daily. Rinsing with water after meals is enough during the day.

Good oral hygiene is key to a healthy smile before treatment begins, throughout Invisalign treatment, and after the Invisalign process is complete. It is much easier to straighten your teeth when traditional brushing and flossing habits are integrated into your child’s routine.

That new beautiful smile will always be more beautiful with improved oral hygiene, especially around the gum line.

At-Home Digital Monitoring

Complete treatment monitoring for Invisalign in Calgary

We use a system called Dental Monitoring to keep a very close eye on your teeth during the orthodontic treatment process. When we are using Invisalign clear aligners to move your teeth gradually, this monitoring program will let you know when you can switch your aligners.

It ensures that teeth are doing exactly what we want. It also allows us to communicate directly with your child or teen to keep them on-track and motivated.

Appointments/Emergencies

Invisalign teen is virtually invisible

When your child or teen is in Invisalign aligners, they see us for appointments on an as-needed basis. No more having to come to the office every 6 weeks! Most of our patients see us every 12-30 weeks (because we see their teeth every single week with the Dental Monitoring app).

There are also no emergencies with Invisalign treatment because there is nothing that can break or get pokey that requires our attention.

If, by chance, your child or teen loses or breaks one of their Invisalign aligners, they can jump ahead to the next one. You have their entire set of aligners at home with you.

Virtually Invisible

Invisalign Calgary Invisalign treatment

Many children and teens appreciate the appearance of clear aligners. They appear slightly shiny on the teeth but are not noticed by most people. Calgary Invisalign is a great option when your child or teen does not want train-tracks!

The clear plastic trays are subtle as their new smile begins to take shape. There has never been a more esthetic way to move crooked teeth into proper alignment.

What Are The Disadvantages To Using Invisalign Clear Aligners?

boy in Invisalign treatment lost his aligners

Removable aligners

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign, virtually invisible aligners, can be removed. This means that while adult teeth and baby teeth are undergoing the straightening process, the Invisalign can be removed to eat and brush…and any other time your child or teen wants to take them out.

Invisalign only works if it is on your teeth for 22 hours a day for the entire estimated treatment time. If you want your teeth to be in the desired position at the end of treatment, they have to be worn full-time.

We recommend you choose Invisalign treatment over traditional metal braces only if your child and teen can commit to wearing them.

Another disadvantage to Invisalign trays being removable is that your child or teen can lose them. If they want straight teeth, they will need to wear them 22 hours a day and know where they put them when they take them out.

That means no pockets or napkins or kleenexes for storage. We provide a case and we tell all of our amazing patients “If it’s not in your face, keep in it your case!”.

The great news is that most children and teens do not lose their Invisalign clear braces often. If it happens once, they learn the mistake they made, and do not do it again.

Parents Are Shocked!

traditional invisalign treatment plans are affordable

When parents come in with their children for a free Invisalign consultation, they are often shocked that Invisalign can straighten teeth as well as wearing braces.

They often ask us if plastic is strong enough to move permanent teeth. We only use advanced clear aligners (Invisalign and Angel), and yes, they are strong enough to move all of the teeth in the mouth!

They are often also shocked that replacement aligners are provided at no additional charge. We know that life happens. There is never a fee in our office to make a new set of aligners.

The Invisalign system allows us to create a custom treatment plan for straighter teeth and a better bite. In the teeth straightening process, there will be unpredictable things that will happen like the loss and breakage of the custom made Invisalign aligners. We don’t want you to have to worry about that, so it is included in the Invisalign cost.

Why Should You Choose Impact Orthodontics For Your Invisalign Calgary?

Choose metal brackets, choose clear braces or choose Invisalign

The Canadian dental association recommends orthodontic assessment for every child age 7 and up.

Invisalign clear braces, metal brackets, and many other appliances may be recommended for your child or teen. If you are set on Invisalign aligners for your child or teen, google “Calgary Invisalign” to see who provides this service near you. Keep in mind that appointments are not frequent in Invisalign treatment, so finding the best provider for your family may be more important than physical location.

Introduction:

Embarking on the journey to find the best orthodontist in Calgary can be a daunting task, given the multitude of options available. However, armed with the right information and insights, you can streamline the process and ensure that you make an informed decision. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll delve into the advantages of considering “Invisalign Calgary” in your search, shedding light on the benefits of this innovative orthodontic treatment. Additionally, we’ll explore the importance of reading reviews, the significance of consultations, and the value of seeking multiple opinions before making a final decision.

Understanding the Benefits of Invisalign:

The popularity of Invisalign has surged in recent years, offering a discreet and convenient alternative to traditional braces. When searching for the best orthodontist in Calgary, including “Invisalign Calgary” in your query can lead you to practitioners who specialize in this innovative treatment. Invisalign employs clear, plastic aligners that are not only removable but also virtually invisible, making them an attractive choice for individuals who prefer a more inconspicuous orthodontic solution.

It’s crucial to note that not all orthodontists are equally comfortable using Invisalign for every type of dental issue. This variance is often a reflection of an orthodontist’s training and familiarity with the Invisalign system. Contrary to common misconceptions, both traditional braces and Invisalign are capable of addressing a wide array of dental problems. It’s not uncommon for general dentists to incorrectly advise against Invisalign for specific cases, emphasizing the importance of consulting with an experienced orthodontist for accurate guidance.

Reading Reviews: A Crucial Step in Your Research

In the digital age, online reviews play a pivotal role in shaping our decisions, and selecting an orthodontist is no exception. Platforms like Google and Facebook offer valuable insights into the experiences of other patients, the quality of an orthodontist’s work, and the overall patient journey. However, it’s essential to approach reviews with discernment, as some practices may attempt to manipulate their online reputation.

For instance, a large chain of practices in Calgary has reportedly incentivized patients to remove negative reviews from Google, creating a skewed representation of their practice. To counteract this, consider seeking additional information from Facebook groups and mom groups, where genuine recommendations and advice are often shared. These platforms can provide a more well-rounded perspective, ensuring that you base your decision on authentic feedback.

The Significance of the Consultation:

Booking a consultation with potential orthodontists is a crucial step in the decision-making process. This meeting serves as an opportunity to gain a firsthand understanding of the treatment options offered by each practice. During the consultation, inquire about the pros and cons of various treatments, and don’t hesitate to ask any tough questions or voice concerns.

Equally important is assessing your comfort level during the consultation. Feeling confident and in control is vital when entrusting someone with your orthodontic care. With over 50 orthodontists in Calgary, you have the freedom to choose a clinic where you feel at ease, ensuring a positive and effective orthodontic experience.

Seeking Multiple Opinions: A Smart Strategy

In the realm of orthodontics, second opinions can be invaluable. Consulting with multiple orthodontists not only provides you with a broader perspective on available treatment options but also allows you to assess each practitioner’s experience, knowledge, and friendliness.

The relationship between you and your orthodontist is a long-term commitment, so it’s essential to feel confident in your decision. Fortunately, new patient exams are often free at most orthodontist offices in Calgary, facilitating the process of gathering multiple opinions without financial barriers.

Conclusion: Your Path to a Radiant Smile

Choosing the right orthodontist in Calgary is a pivotal decision that significantly influences the outcome of your orthodontic treatment. By conducting thorough research, seeking advice, and trusting your instincts, you can navigate the plethora of options with confidence. Remember, you have the freedom to choose any orthodontist in the city without requiring a referral, ensuring that the decision aligns seamlessly with your family’s needs.

Embark on your quest for the perfect orthodontist today by searching “Invisalign Calgary.” Your family’s journey to healthy, straight smiles begins with a well-informed decision.

Do you ever find that your Invisalign gets smelly, stinky, nasty, gross? You are not alone…that plastic will hold on to all smells. Watch the video to see how Dr. Dena thinks you should take care of your Invisalign (and your teeth) to keep them sparkly clean and smelling fantastic!

Oral health care is important all of the time and especially when you are in active treatment.  When your teeth are being moved to give you a beautiful smile and a functional bite, the cleaner they are, the better they move.

These tips also work for keeping your retainers clean and smelling great!

Yes! Yes! Yes!

We are asked regularly if Invisalign can fix a whole host of smile and bite problems. I think the most common question is about overbite. When people talk to me about overbite they are usually are referring to the upper teeth being ahead of the lower teeth. In orthodontic terminology this is actually called overjet. See below the examples of normal overbite (vertical overlap of upper and lower front teeth) and normal overjet compared to extra overbite and extra overjet.

Normal Overbite (top left), Normal Overjet (bottom left), Extra Overbite (top right), Extra Overjet (bottom right)

In orthodontics, there are always many different ways that the bite can be fixed. Extra overbite and extra overjet are bite problems. They are fixed in order to protect your teeth from damage over time, make the forces on your teeth even, improve the way your lips cover your teeth and make your smile look better.

Some appliances used to fix overjet over the history of orthodontics include:

 Headgear

Twin Block

Herbst

Frankel

As you can see, there are many ways to correct the bite. There is not one way that is better than the other. The choice made by your orthodontist has to do with their training and comfort level with the different appliance types.

I like to do overjet correction with elastics and/or mandibular advancement wings when in Invisalign. Some of my patients prefer the wings to avoid taking elastics in and out all of the time, but the choice is usually yours!

Below are a few of Dr. Dena and my patients that have had their overjet corrected with Invisalign.

If you have extra overbite or overjet and would like to have it fixed, come on in for a free consultation. You can book online! If you would rather get this information from home, click on virtual consult and Dr. Jen or Dr. Dena will send a video consult to you.

I am asked daily if someone is a candidate for Invisalign. Actually, let me re-phrase that. I am told almost daily that someone was informed that they are NOT a candidate for Invisalign.

I then proceed to explain that almost everyone is a candidate for Invisalign at Impact Orthodontics. Dr. Dena and myself treat patients as young as 7 and as old as 80 in Invisalign clear aligners.

Invisalign is simply a tool that is used for tooth movement. When used correctly, with a good orthodontic treatment plan, it is just as efficient and accurate as traditional metal or clear braces.

The descriptions and before/after photos below are of Dr. Jen’s treated patients. All of these patients were treated with Invisalign clear aligners.

Feel free to comment below with questions you may have. I would love to provide insight.

TREATMENT FOR A 10 YEAR-OLD:

This Invisalign treatment was completed in 16 months. For our younger patients (10 and under), parents are often concerned that their children will lose their aligners. The good news is that this does not tend to be a problem.

We coach the kids on having a routine with their aligners and to always put them in the same place. Always using the case or a lunch bag ensures that they know where to find them at all times.

Should an aligner go missing, no worries, it is usually fine to jump ahead to the next number in the sequence.

Each aligner is worn for 1 week and then switched. The next aligner will feel quite tight if the previous one was not worn for the full week, but that subsides quickly in young kids as their teeth move very easily.

TEEN INVISALIGN TREATMENT:

This teen case was treated in about 22 months. The open bite and severe crowding that were present at the beginning are very difficult to treat with braces (it would have required tooth extraction to get an acceptable result).

Teenagers tell me that they love Invisalign because it does not change their everyday life. They are able to eat whatever they want, brush and floss normally and continue on with sports and instruments with no changes.

Many people are surprised that Invisalign is not just for making the smile more aesthetic. Yes, that is part of it, but significant bite corrections can also be done using clear aligners.

ADULT INVISALIGN TREATMENT:

Invisalign treatment took 16 months in this case. Correction of both the crowding of the lower teeth as well as the bite was completed. The vast majority of adult patients that I see want to have Invisalign. They much prefer the look of it over braces.

Invisalign treatment also requires fewer visits to the office. Everyone is very busy these days and finding the time to get to the office can be a challenge.

EVERYONE IS A CANDIDATE

I believe that every patient is a candidate for Invisalign treatment. There are times that both braces and Invisalign are needed to achieve an optimal result, but this is only in 5-10% of patients.

If you think that Invisalign is the way you want to correct your smile and/or bite, find an Invisalign provider in your area.

Please feel free to post questions or comments below.

As Invisalign Diamond Providers, Dr. Dena and myself talk about Invisalign Teen all day long at the office.

Sometimes the parents of the teen are curious about Invisalign as an option, but more often, the teen is the one that wants to know more.

Teens are excited about the aesthetic appearance of Invisalign aligners and their ease of use. Many teens had braces when they were in elementary school and don’t like the idea of braces again!

Parents like the idea of reduced risk of cavities and fewer appointments at our office.

All teenagers are candidates for Invisalign Teen at Impact Orthodontics…the choice between braces or Invisalign is yours.

Braces and Invisalign are the most common orthodontic appliances used for teenagers that need their teeth moved. Both systems are effective, but they are quite different.

Here I will highlight the main differences between braces and Invisalign.

Braces are attached to your teeth like stickers. The brackets (little metal square) are all connected by a wire and the wire is what moves your teeth around.

Braces can be on the teeth for 6-36 months, depending on the complexity of treatment needed. As they can not be removed during this time, extra care and attention will be needed to keep the teeth clean and prevent the braces from breaking off.

Special dental tools will be provided to you by your orthodontist to aid in brushing and flossing. It will take twice as long to brush your teeth and three times longer to floss with braces than without them.

Meticulous oral hygiene is important to prevent cavities from forming on the teeth.

Popcorn is the only no-no food in our office but care must be taken when eating crunchy, sticky, hard or chewy foods as these can all cause breakage.

If braces break off during treatment, it can lengthen the time that they are needed or cause tooth movements that are not desired.

Braces are working 24/7 since they are attached to the teeth. Braces also can not be lost as they are glued on.

Invisalign aligners are clear, removable braces.

A 3D scan of the teeth is taken and Dr. Jen or Dr. Dena use a computer

program to digitally place all of the teeth in the correct place. A series of Invisalign aligners are then made for each teen patient.

The Invisalign aligners are switched every week. Each aligner is slightly different than the one before and this is how they move the teeth into the planned position.

Invisalign aligners are removable so there are no changes to dietary or oral hygiene routines. Aligners are removed to eat and brush and are worn the rest of the time. The goal is 22 hours/day.

Loss of Invisalign aligners tends to be parents’ number one concern. Loss has not proven to be a problem for our teen patients, but on the rare occasion that it happens, most teens can jump ahead to the next aligner. The new aligner will feel tighter than normal as the previous one was not worn for the full week. As long as this is not a regular occurrence, jumping ahead a few times during treatment is fine.

It can be a tough decision for teens and parents alike. Dr. Dena and myself are here to help you make that decision. Come on in for a consultation or do our virtual consultation online from home. Consults are always free with no obligation and we pride ourselves on providing comprehensive and detailed information to all of our patients.

All the best in your orthodontic journey!
